For years, my approach to sports and fitness was simple: brute force.
Throughout my teens and twenties, I relied on aggression and a decent level of fitness to bulldoze my way through any challenge. Mountain biking? Charge down the hill. Football? Tackle harder. Gym? Lift heavier. Half marathons? Rock up and get it done. I felt invincible. Scrapes, bruises, sprains, strains, broken bones, stitches, metal work were badges of honour - proof of my relentless approach. Then, in 2018, it changed, something shifted. I was 40, and during a leisurely mountain bike ride in preparation for a week in Morzine, I had a seemingly innocuous fall. At an incredibly slow speed - I hit something, over the handlebars I went and into the ground.

Let's talk frankly. I've had a couple conversations this week where potential clients have expressed a desire to work with me based on strong recommendations, but then hesitated and said ‘I know a trainer down the road who is cheaper….’. Which got me thinking… It has prompted me to clarify the value of what I offer and why experience matters when investing in your health and well-being. Some are seasoned riders, eager to conquer new challenges; others are just starting out, their eyes wide with anticipation.
