My recent voyage aboard the historic tall ship ‘Sea Cloud 2’ through the Mediterranean provided a unique vantage point on a region often perceived solely through the lens of its stunning coastline. This exceptional vessel, with its rich and distinctive heritage, offered an elevated perspective that sparked a clear vision for me for a forthcoming Project Active ‘Adventure’. While the undeniable allure of the Mediterranean's beaches is widely recognized, my experience underscored the significant, yet often overlooked, potential for active and immersive exploration extending far beyond the typical seaside experience. The region presents a compelling array of opportunities for individuals seeking engagement beyond conventional fitness pursuits. Consider the prospect of hiking meticulously maintained historic French trails, each kilometer showing the history of wartime events, while simultaneously offering breathtaking panoramic vistas of the coastline. Envision navigating secluded coves by kayak, discovering intricate ancient subterranean cave systems accessible only from the sea. Alternatively, picture cycling through the landscapes of inland villages, where enduring traditions and l heritage provide a connection to the past. Looking for the elusive pod of Dolphins (Which we were fortunate to find) The Mediterranean, therefore, reveals itself as a multifaceted destination, a rich confluence of culture, history, and diverse natural environments awaiting a more active and profound engagement. The focus of ‘Adventure’ is to curate and facilitate these experiences for individuals who desire a deeper interaction with their surroundings, moving beyond passive observation to active participation. This initiative is designed for those who seek more than routine exercise during their travels. It targets individuals driven by a desire for authentic discovery, for the physical and mental stimulation of exploration and a link to the history and culture of the places they visit. While the romanticism of sailing a tall ship like the ‘Sea Cloud 2’ evokes a sense of classic adventure (a sentiment that hit me was this is the closest I will get to going on a pirate ship and that like me a #Gooniesneverdie enthusiast certainly appreciates), Like all our Adventures, the focus is on precisely defined active itineraries. These will incorporate expertly guided hiking excursions along historically significant routes, carefully planned kayaking expeditions to explore hidden coastal features, and thoughtfully designed cycling tours through culturally rich inland areas. As I like to say, there is much much more than the typical four walls of the gym to get so called fit, exercise your mind, your body and to feed the soul - Find that Inner Adventurer! Stay informed for upcoming details regarding Project Active Adventure. The exploration of the Mediterranean, beyond its beautiful beaches, is poised to commence.

Beyond the Scales: What Weight Loss Really Means and How the Right Coach Ignites Your Journey4/23/2025 The words "weight loss" often conjure up images of scales, tape measures, and endless hours on a treadmill but what if I told you that true weight loss is about so much more than just a number?
At Project Active, I believe it's about igniting a spark within you, a desire for a healthier, happier, and more vibrant life. It's about understanding that the four walls of a traditional gym are not the only way. For me, weight loss isn't about fitting into a certain dress size or achieving an arbitrary number on the scale. It's about freedom. Freedom to move without pain, to chase after the children without getting winded, to feel confident and comfortable in my own skin. It's about energy – waking up feeling refreshed and having the stamina to tackle the day with enthusiasm. It's about nourishment – understanding how to fuel my body with foods that make me feel strong and vibrant, rather than just restricting and depriving. Perhaps most importantly, it's about well-being – a positive relationship with my body and mind. This journey, however, isn't always easy. The path to a healthier lifestyle can be filled with plateaus, setbacks, and moments of doubt - This is where the right coach becomes an invaluable ally. A good coach isn't just someone who tells you what exercises to do or what to eat. They are a motivator, a guide, and a source of unwavering support. Beyond the obvious health benefits associated with weight loss, a skilled coach understands the crucial role of the mental game that underpins the journey. Take my client Ian for example, in his own words Ian said - ‘Juggling a demanding career and family life has always made it a real struggle to prioritise my health. I’d been going to the gym sporadically for years, but without any real plan or purpose, I never saw the results I wanted. It was frustrating! I started working with Ben and the difference has been incredible. I’ve now lost a stone, and more importantly, I feel so much better. It’s not just about weight loss; it’s about having more energy, feeling more focused, and being a better version of myself. The icing on the cake? I'm joining him on an upcoming trip to Norway!" Read more about what Ian had to say here At Project Active, I recognise that your health and fitness journey extends far beyond the confines of the scales. I want to help you discover the joy of movement in all its forms – whether it's hiking through nature, dancing in your living room, or trying a new outdoor sport. I believe in creating a holistic approach that integrates physical activity, mindful nutrition, and a strong mental foundation with a passion for the outdoors Remember the Project Active mantra - "I believe that movement is the medicine for the body and that the outdoors is the tonic for the mind" It is not just about helping you lose weight; I am about empowering you to build a healthier and happier life with purpose. I want to ignite that spark within you, that intrinsic motivation to prioritise your well-being. So, step outside the four walls, embrace the possibilities and let Project Active guide you on a journey that transforms not just your body but your mind and spirit too. What does weight loss really mean to you? If you want to reignite your health and fitness spark like Ian then let's discover the path together. The alarm clock buzzed, but there was no hint of Monday morning blues. Today was Saturday, and the promise of sunshine and fantastic trails in the Chiltern Hills beckoned. It was a morning dedicated to two of my favourite things: mountain biking and connecting with clients amidst stunning scenery. Our route for the day? A glorious 50-kilometre loop through the undulating terrain of the Chilterns. This Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with its ancient woodlands and rolling hills, offers a fantastic playground for mountain bikers of all levels. But today, it was about more than just the ride; it was about shared experience, camaraderie, and enjoying the simple pleasure of pedalling through nature's masterpiece. As we gathered at our starting point, the energy was palpable. Bikes were checked, helmets fastened, and the air buzzed with anticipation. The early morning sunshine cast long shadows, promising a day filled with golden light. And the trails? They were in prime condition – a perfect blend of flowy singletrack, challenging climbs, and exhilarating descents. From the moment our tyres hit the dirt, the worries of the week melted away. The rhythm of pedalling, the crunch of leaves under our tyres, and the laughter echoing through the trees created a symphony of pure enjoyment. We navigated rooty sections with focus, powered up inclines with determination, and let loose on the downhills. Stopping at scenic viewpoints, we took in the breathtaking panoramas of the Chiltern landscape. The patchwork of fields, the distant villages, and the vast expanse of sky served as a reminder of the beauty that surrounds us. These moments of pause allowed for conversation (and a breather) The 50 kilometres flew by, each twist and turn revealing a new vista or a thrilling trail feature. There were moments of challenge, of course – a particularly steep climb or a tricky technical section – but these were met with encouragement and a shared sense of accomplishment. Crossing the finishing line, tired but exhilarated, there was a collective feeling of satisfaction. We had not only conquered the distance but also strengthened relationships and created lasting memories. This Saturday morning ride was a perfect reminder of the power of shared experiences and the restorative nature of the outdoors. It’s more than just exercise; it’s about building connections, enjoying the beauty of our surroundings, and recharging our minds and bodies. If you’re looking for a way to escape the everyday and experience the magic of the Chiltern Hills, perhaps it’s time to dust off your bike and hit the trails. You might just discover your own version of Saturday morning bliss. Ready for your own Chilterns adventure? Let's ride! Friday's glorious sunshine wasn't just a treat for the eyes; it was the perfect catalyst for the first in a series of team hikes organised for Darke & Taylor. 25 of the staff traded their desks and building sites for the stunning landscapes of the Oxfordshire Ridgeway, embarking on a refreshing 12-mile trek that offered far more than just picturesque views. In today's fast-paced work environment, it's easy to become stuck in the daily grind, our interactions often limited to project updates and email threads. These team hikes provide a vital opportunity to break free from the office routine and connect with colleagues on a more personal level. As we navigated the rolling hills and ancient trails, conversations flowed freely, touching on everything but work. This informal interaction builds stronger team cohesion, building trust and understanding that can positively impact the collaborative efforts back in the office. Beyond the social benefits, the physical advantages of such activities are undeniable. Spending time outdoors, surrounded by nature, has been proven to reduce stress levels and improve mental wellbeing. The gentle exertion of a long walk boosts cardiovascular health, strengthens muscles, and encourages a healthy lifestyle. Stepping away from screens and breathing in the fresh air offers a much-needed reset for both body and mind. The post-hike pint wasn't just a reward; it was a continuation of the informal chatter and camaraderie built throughout the day. Sharing a drink and reflecting on the shared experience further solidified the bonds between team members. At Darke & Taylor, They recognise the importance of nurturing both the physical and mental wellbeing of their team. These hikes are just one way we encourage a healthy work-life balance and foster a supportive company culture. I believe that a happy and healthy team is a productive and engaged team. - Ben

Your presence and enthusiasm made it a memorable and successful event. The morning began with a refreshing walk and talk around Blenheim Park and it was wonderful to see so many of you engaging in meaningful conversations as we strolled. The simple act of walking together created a relaxed and open atmosphere, encouraging genuine connections that might not have happened in a more formal setting. The fresh air and shared experience seemed to spark discussion and encourage open dialogue, proving the power of a simple walk in building community. Following our walk, the transition to The Back Lane Tavern for coffee and networking was seamless. The warm and inviting atmosphere provided the perfect backdrop for further discussions and the forging of new relationships. It was great to witness the exchange of ideas, the sharing of experiences, and the genuine interest everyone showed in one another. The success of today’s huddle lies squarely with you, the attendees. Your willingness to participate, share your perspectives, and connect with others created the vibrant and dynamic atmosphere we all enjoyed.
