Conquering Challenges, One Step at a Time: Blenheim Palace to Yorkshire Three Peaks! Another day, another brilliant (and undeniably hot!) adventure in the books! This past week, I had the absolute pleasure of joining the fantastic team from Blenheim Palace for a challenging 15-mile training walk. The sun was certainly making its presence known, but the spirits were high as we pounded the pavements and trails, all with our sights set on a much bigger goal. Next month, this incredible group will be taking on the mighty Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge. For those unfamiliar, it's a formidable trek across some of Yorkshire's most iconic peaks, a true test of endurance and teamwork. And they're not just doing it for the personal achievement; they're doing it to raise vital funds and awareness for Dementia Care UK. It’s moments like these that truly highlight what I love about my job. At its core, I believe my role is about connecting brilliant people, understanding their ambitions, and then helping to make that magic happen. Witnessing the dedication and passion of individuals like the Blenheim Palace team, who are willing to push their limits for such a worthy cause, is incredibly inspiring. These are genuinely awesome people doing truly great things. At Project Active, our mission is simple yet profound: we're here to provide the tools, the support, and the know-how to help people not just dream big, but to turn those ambitious dreams into tangible realities. Whether it’s conquering a challenging hike, completing a marathon, or undertaking any personal challenge, we believe everyone deserves the opportunity to achieve their goals. We guide, we advise, and we empower, helping individuals and teams navigate the complexities of their chosen adventures, from initial planning to celebratory completion. The Blenheim Palace team's commitment to Dementia Care UK is particularly moving. Dementia affects so many lives, and the work that organisations like Dementia Care UK do is absolutely crucial in providing support, research, and care for those living with the condition and their families. Every step taken on that 15-mile training walk, and every stride they'll make on the Yorkshire Three Peaks, contributes directly to this vital cause. If you're able to, please consider supporting their incredible effort. You can donate directly through their JustGiving page here: https://www.justgiving.com/page/christopher-monaghan-1. Every pound makes a difference and helps spur them on through those tough climbs and long descents. So, as we continue to support teams like Blenheim Palace on their inspiring journeys, it makes me wonder: What's your big adventure? What's that challenge you've been dreaming of, that goal you've been putting off? At Project Active, we're ready to help you make it happen. Let's make some magic together.

What a Scorcher! What an incredible day it was! A massive thank you to every single person who joined us for our Banbury to Oxford Canal walk. Despite the truly scorching heat, we had an absolutely fantastic time, covering an amazing 28 miles through the beautiful Oxfordshire countryside. The sun certainly put us through our paces, but the atmosphere was electric. It was a day brimming with good people and even better banter. Laughter and encouraging words filled the air as we navigated the scenic towpath. And let's not forget the crucial fuel that kept our spirits high and our legs moving: some seriously delicious sausage rolls and well-deserved ice cream stops! These little treats were more than just snacks; they were moments of shared joy and much-needed refreshment. Every single step taken today, every mile conquered, was in support of an truly incredible cause: Walking With The Wounded. This remarkable charity does vital work, providing life-changing support to veterans who have served our country. Knowing that our efforts were directly contributing to their mission gave every participant an extra boost, a deeper sense of purpose with each stride. I am incredibly proud of everyone's efforts. From those who covered the entire 28 miles to those who joined us for a shorter distance, the dedication and camaraderie on display were inspiring. It's moments like these that truly highlight the power of coming together for a common goal. We pushed through the heat, supported each other, and, most importantly, made a tangible difference for Walking With The Wounded. Thank you once again to everyone who participated, volunteered, and supported us. Your enthusiasm and commitment made this challenging walk a resounding success. I look forward to many more adventures like this, continuing to make a positive impact one step at a time. Yesterday, I had the privilege of observing the Darke & Taylor team lace up their boots, pack their water bottles, and hit the trails for an exhilarating team-building hike in what I will say 'was a tad warm'. What an incredible day it was! Beyond the stunning panoramic views and the invigorating fresh air, this adventure was far more than just a stroll in the countryside. It was a powerful exercise in mental resilience, a skill I believe is absolutely crucial both on the demanding trails of nature and in the dynamic environment of the workplace. From the very first incline, the Darke & Taylor team demonstrated incredible spirit. There were challenging ascents that tested their stamina, uneven paths that demanded focus, and moments where a helping hand from a colleague made all the difference. I watched individuals push past their perceived limits, encouraging each other with every step. The cheers at the summit weren't just for reaching the top; they were for overcoming the shared challenges, for the camaraderie forged in moments of exertion, and for the collective achievement of a common goal. The Transferable Power of the Trails, What does a hike have to do with the day-to-day work at Darke & Taylor? Everything. The skills honed on the trail are remarkably transferable, a direct parallel to the challenges and triumphs faced in any professional setting:
A Journey Towards Snowdonia This isn't just a one-off event. Yesterday's hike was the second progressive team-building event we've undertaken with Darke & Taylor, each one designed to build upon the last and strengthen their collective spirit. These activities are carefully planned stepping stones, culminating in what promises to be an epic adventure: a weekend in Snowdonia this October! Imagine tackling the majestic peaks of Snowdonia together, facing even greater challenges, and building even deeper bonds. This progressive approach ensures that each experience reinforces the lessons learned and prepares the team for the next, fostering a culture of continuous growth and mutual support. As their Health & Wellbeing Coach, I can confidently say that Darke & Taylor understands that a strong team isn't just about individual talent; it's about shared experiences, mutual respect, and the ability to collectively overcome any hurdle. Their investment in these team-building initiatives is an investment in their people, recognising that a resilient, cohesive team is their greatest asset. Is your team ready to scale new heights and build unbreakable bonds? et's connect and design a tailored program to unleash your team's full potential. There are weekends, and then there are weekends.
The kind that etch themselves into your memory, leaving you buzzing with renewed energy and a heart full of gratitude. Just recently, I had one of those truly extraordinary experiences, spending an absolute cracking few days in the breathtaking landscapes of Wales for the legendary Man v Horse event. And let me tell you, it was made even more special by the truly cracking people I shared it with. From the moment we crossed the border into Wales, a sense of adventure settled over us. The verdant hills, ancient forests, and crisp, clean air immediately worked their magic, washing away the week's stresses. This wasn't just any trip; it was a pilgrimage to one of the most unique and challenging races in the UK. The Thrill of the Race: For those unfamiliar, the Man v Horse Marathon in Llanwrtyd Wells is exactly what it sounds like: a gruelling 22-mile race across varied, often unforgiving, terrain where human runners pit their endurance against horses (with riders, of course!). You can either run the whole event on your own, split the distance in to a pair or even participate in team of three. It’s a spectacle of immense proportions, a true test of grit, strategy, and sheer will. Standing amidst the cheering crowds, watching the runners and riders thunder past, the atmosphere was utterly electric. You could feel the raw determination radiating from every participant, whether they were a seasoned athlete aiming for a record or a first-timer simply trying to finish. The shared sense of anticipation and the collective roar of encouragement as competitors navigated the challenging course was something truly special. It’s more than just a race; it’s a celebration of perseverance and the incredible capabilities of both human and animal. The Heart of the Weekend: Cracking Company But as exhilarating as the event itself was, it was the company that truly elevated the weekend from great to unforgettable. My incredible group of friends/clients transformed every moment into a highlight. From the lively debates over our morning coffee about race tactics and who we thought might actually win, to the effortless laughter that filled the air during our hearty meals, their presence was the soul of the trip. We navigated winding country lanes together, shared stories and silly jokes, and recounted the day’s highlights – the heroic sprints, the muddy tumbles, the sheer scale of the landscape. There’s something profoundly re-energising about spending time with people who don't just share your enthusiasm, but amplify it. Their infectious energy made even the wait in a queue feel like an opportunity for a new anecdote. We found joy in the simple things, like discovering a hidden viewpoint or sharing a piece of lemon cake. It’s those moments of genuine connection, the easy banter, and the unconditional support for each other, that truly make a trip memorable. Every interaction, every shared glance, was a reminder of the power of genuine friendship and how good company makes even the most magnificent scenery shine brighter. Wales: A Stunning Backdrop Beyond the thrills of the race, Wales itself proved to be a magnificent host. The rugged beauty of the landscape provided a stunning backdrop to our adventures. Every turn seemed to reveal another postcard-perfect vista, from rolling green valleys dotted with sheep to dramatic skies that promised either glorious sunshine or a quintessential Welsh drizzle (we got a bit of both, naturally!). Taking a deep breath of that clean Welsh air felt like a detox for the soul, and just being immersed in nature was a powerful reminder of the world’s enduring beauty. And doing so with friends who appreciate the same things just made it even better. Reflection and Gratitude: Leaving Wales, I carried not just the typical post-event glow, but a deep sense of inspiration and immense gratitude. I sincerely thought my running days were over but this feels just the spark to get my trail legs back in the game again! The Man v Horse event was a powerful testament to endurance and the spirit of competition, but it was the shared laughter, the camaraderie, and the genuine warmth of good company that truly defined this "cracking weekend." It’s a powerful reminder that while the destinations and events are exciting, it’s often the people you share them with that create the most cherished and lasting memories. I’m already dreaming of the next adventure, and undoubtedly, it’ll be with some more of those cracking people. ![]() Are you dreaming of an adventure that will truly take your breath away? In an age where young people spend increasing amounts of time indoors, glued to screens and disconnected from nature, Project Active's Junior Mountain Biking programme offers something revolutionary: a chance for children to rediscover their wild side whilst building essential life skills. More Than Just Riding Bikes Our Junior MTB sessions, running regularly in the stunning Oxfordshire countryside and beyond, represent far more than simple cycling lessons. They embody our core philosophy that "movement is medicine and the outdoors is tonic for the mind" - a principle that becomes even more powerful when applied to developing young minds. Research consistently demonstrates that mountain biking provides exceptional developmental benefits for children aged 12-16. Physical fitness and coordination naturally improve, but the psychological benefits are equally profound. When a young rider conquers a challenging trail section they previously thought impossible, you witness genuine confidence building in real-time. The Science Behind Outdoor Adventure Studies show that outdoor activities like mountain biking significantly enhance children's mental resilience, problem-solving abilities, and social skills. Unlike indoor sports, trail riding requires constant adaptation to changing terrain, weather conditions, and unexpected obstacles - skills that translate directly into improved decision-making and adaptability in daily life. The natural environment provides what psychologists call "soft fascination" - a gentle engagement that allows the mind to rest and restore whilst remaining alert. This is particularly crucial for young people navigating academic pressures and social challenges. Building Community Through Challenge Our small group format creates natural opportunities for peer support and friendship development. Mountain biking inherently teaches teamwork - riders learn to encourage struggling teammates, share equipment, and celebrate collective achievements. These social connections often extend far beyond our sessions, creating lasting friendships built on shared adventure. Safety Meets Adventure Every session is led by me (Ben) with comprehensive insurance coverage, current first aid certification and up to date coaching requirements and regulations. The progressive approach means each child develops at their own pace. Whether building basic bike handling skills or tackling more technical terrain, every young rider experiences appropriate challenges that stretch their abilities without overwhelming them. Investment in Character Development Parents consistently report improvements in their children's confidence, independence, and resilience following our Junior MTB programme. These aren't just cycling skills - they're life skills. The child who learns to navigate a tricky descent develops the same mental tools needed to tackle academic challenges or social situations. Adults, please note,This approach aligns perfectly with our flagship "Think Differently" 12-week behaviour change coaching programme, demonstrating that sustainable transformation - whether for adults or children - begins with shifting mindset and building confidence through achievable challenges. The Project Active Difference Based in Woodstock, Oxfordshire. I will combine local knowledge of the best family-friendly trails with professional expertise in youth development. The holistic approach to wellbeing extends beyond individual sessions to create lasting positive change in young people's relationship with physical activity and outdoor adventure. As I prepare for our next Junior MTB session this Saturday (1:00-3:00 PM), we're reminded why this programme matters. We're not just teaching children to ride bikes - we're nurturing tomorrow's confident, resilient, adventure-seeking leaders who understand that movement truly is medicine. Ready to give your child the gift of outdoor adventure? |
