Last week, a small group of people flew home from Norway with aching legs, huge smiles, and something that no amount of scrolling or screen time can ever give you — a memory they'll carry for the rest of their lives. Hike, kayak, and camp the Norwegian Fjords. Five days. Four nights. Steep climbs, cold water, early starts, and an evening sky that honestly made you question whether you were still on planet Earth. It was breathtaking. It was hard - and it was exactly the kind of thing that reminds you what being alive actually feels like. One of the adventurers put it like this when they got home: "It was an amazing few days. The stunning scenery, great camaraderie and fabulous activities more than made up for the early starts. Returned refreshed after 4 days of laughing and working hard — a brilliant way to spend the Bank Holiday weekend. Thanks Ben." Refreshed. Laughing. Working hard. All at once. That's the magic. But here's the thing I want you to really sit with — that person almost didn't come. I know, because most people almost don't. There's always a reason to wait.
Sound familiar? The moment is always right there, available, real — and we talk ourselves out of it because the timing isn't quite perfect, or the commitment feels too big, or the voice in our head says "maybe not yet." But if you can't take the moment, you don't get the memory. It really is that simple. And this isn't just about Norway - This is the thread that runs through every single one of my five-star client reviews. Ian, Elaine, Jos, Debbie, Richard, Steve — every one of them arrived at a crossroads where they had to decide: Do I keep doing what I've always done, or do I take the moment? They took the moment. They committed. And then the transformation started.
These aren't promises I'm making — they're outcomes my clients have experienced and written about in their own words, in their own time. Read them - They'll tell you far more than I ever could. The pattern is always the same: The moment you commit to yourself — really commit, not "I'll try it for a week" commit — is the moment everything changes. It doesn't have to be Norway.
But it starts with taking the moment. We've got more adventures coming — Slovenia, Scotland, the Welsh 3000s. More one to one coaching spaces opening up. More moments waiting to become memories. The question is simply this: Are you going to take your moment? You've had the thought. The idea of doing something different, something bold, something that puts you first for once. And then life fills the gap — a meeting, a deadline, a reason that sounds entirely sensible — and the moment passes. This isn't weakness. It's biology. Your nervous system is wired to protect you from discomfort, from risk, from the unfamiliar. Every time you've talked yourself out of committing to your health, it hasn't been laziness — it's been a deeply ingrained pattern doing exactly what it was built to do. The behaviour needed to take the moment isn't bravado. It isn't having everything perfectly in place. It's three things, and they're simpler than you think: 1. Recognise the pattern. Notice the moment you start negotiating with yourself. The voice that says not yet, not now, maybe next month — that's the pattern talking. Naming it is the first act of change. 2. Make the decision before you're ready. Readiness is a myth. Nobody who has ever done something meaningful waited until they felt completely prepared. You commit first. The confidence follows. 3. Attach yourself to something real. An adventure. A programme. A person who will hold you to it. Accountability isn't a weakness — it's the mechanism that makes the commitment stick. After nearly 30 years of coaching, this is the pattern I see in every client who transforms — and in every client who doesn't. The difference was never fitness level, age, or circumstance. It was always the decision. But remember if you can't take the moment, you don't get the memory. It all starts with a a message to me
