I nearly missed it. The calendar flipped, the weeks rolled by, and it suddenly hit me — last month, Project Active quietly turned twenty years old. Two decades! When you are involved in helping people rebuild their bodies, minds, and schedules, you don’t spend much time staring in the rearview mirror. You look at the next week, the next session, the next strategy map. But a milestone like this forces a moment of pause. It makes you clear away the noise, look back at the starting line, and take stock of the distance covered. If you had told me in 2006 what this business would become, where it would take me, and the sheer variety of human stories I would get to be a part of... I’m not sure I would have believed you. Back then, it was a vision built on a very simple, unshakeable foundation: 'To help clients to the absolute best of my ability, with total honesty and integrity.' A lot has changed since those early days. The fitness industry has morphed, trends have come and gone, and the world has become infinitely louder, faster, and more digitally distracted. But that core fundamental? It hasn't shifted an inch. It still holds entirely true today. When I launched Project Active, I had no idea the journey would span multiple countries, cross-continental flights, and embed me within some of the most hyper-precise, high-pressure environments on the planet. Over the last two decades, I’ve had the privilege of working inside professional sports environments, including elite Formula One teams like Williams, Scuderia AlphaTauri, and Lotus Renault F1. I’ve worked alongside professional football clubs and inside innovative, rapid-growth corporate offices. In those worlds, everything is measured in milliseconds and marginal gains. The pressure is immense. The expectations are absolute. It was a masterclass in what human beings are truly capable of when they are backed by rigorous strategy, intelligent physical prep, and flawless execution. But do you want to know the most fascinating thing I learned from all my travels and coaching? Strip away the multi-million-pound cars, the corporate acronyms, and the prestigious titles, and everyone is remarkably similar.
Underneath it all, the people I worked with were just human beings. They were fantastic people who, despite their professional acclaim, simply needed a little help on the health and fitness front. They were losing the battle with their time. They were exhausted. They were trying to apply old-school, rigid methods to a modern, red-lined lifestyle — and it was breaking them. The Hidden Battles We Fight When most people think of a personal trainer or a health coach, they picture someone standing over a client counting reps on a spreadsheet and barking at them. That’s not real life. And it’s certainly not what the last twenty years have been about. The reality of deep, meaningful health coaching is varied, complex, and incredibly humbling. Over the years, the scope of what we do at Project Active has expanded far beyond the traditional four walls of a gym. I have stood shoulder-to-shoulder with clients navigating an incredibly wide range of conditions that people simply struggle to get through alone:
It’s a massive spectrum. But whether I’m working with a busy professional recovering from a major health scare, or a business owner who can no longer look at themselves in the mirror without a sinking feeling — the solution is never to "smash them" with more stress. They already have enough stress. The job is to provide a strategic edge. A blueprint that adapts when life happens. The Reality of the Tightrope Let’s be entirely transparent here. I don’t sit on an idealised fitness pedestal, drinking green smoothies and lecturing people from afar. I’m approaching 50. I’m a married dad with two kids. And for the last twenty years, I’ve been navigating the exact same trials, tribulations, and headaches that come with running a business. I know what it feels like to have a calendar that looks like a Tetris board. I know the background noise of family commitments, the temptation to work through lunch, miss the big school events, the mental fatigue of spinning multiple plates, and the constant threat of the "you should..." brigade whispering in your ear. Running Project Active hasn’t just been a career; it’s been a parallel journey alongside my clients. When a business owner sits across from me and tells me they are too tired to think, let alone exercise, I don’t judge them. I get it. Because we are walking the exact same tightrope. That peer-to-peer connection, that mutual understanding of what a busy life actually demands, is the very DNA of Project Active. We don’t overhaul your life. We carve out small, high-leverage pockets of time to build sustainable strategies. The Fuel in the Tank People often ask me how I’ve kept the momentum going for this long. Project Active has been alive for twenty years, but my time in the health, fitness, and human performance industry actually spans 28 years. Nearly three decades of coaching, learning, adapting, and showing up. I always reinforce a specific phrase to those who know me well. It’s a personal rule I live by, and it guides everything I do: "If I wake up in the morning and think I have to go to work... then my time is done." After 28 years, I can honestly say that day has never arrived. I am still very much in love with what I do. I love the strategic puzzle of solving a client's lifestyle bottlenecks. I love seeing the exact moment someone shifts their identity from a tired executive "trying to get fit" to a capable, vibrant individual who owns their physical freedom. But most of all, I love the people I work with. The high-caliber professionals, the resilient corporate leaders, the self-employed drivers — the people who have mastered the boardroom and have the courage to say, "I need a strategy to win back my body." They are the heartbeat of Project Active. They are the reason the last twenty years have flown by in what feels like a blink. What Comes Next? I have no intention of slowing down. If anything, the Project Active Pathway — from the psychological pivot of Base Camp Prep right through to the real-world camaraderie of our Summit Days and Pinnacle Adventures — is more refined, more impactful, and more necessary than it has ever been. The world isn't getting any quieter. The noise isn't going away. The demand on your time, health, and freedom is only going to intensify. But you don’t have to fight that war alone, and you certainly don't need to sacrifice hours of your daily life to a rigid gym routine to win it. You just need the right blueprint. Whether you’ve been with us since the 2006 starting line, or you’ve only recently crossed paths with Project Active, thank you for being part of the journey.
