ItineraryDAY 1 (Thurs 13th November)
DAY 2 (Friday 14th November)
Kayak the Zrmanja River
Spend the day paddling, swimming, jumping off waterfalls and enjoying the wilderness as you kayak a particularly scenic section of the beautiful Zrmanja River. Take a short hike to an 8m high waterfall for lunch and a refreshing swim, then return to the river to negotiate some Class II and III rapids, while floating through limestone canyons and past lush vegetation. Head back to camp for the evening and enjoy a traditional Croatian meal. DAY 3 (Saturday 15th November)
Hike the Paklenica National Park
Today you'll hike a beautiful path that will first take you through a wild and impressive canyon, and later through the gentle, forested valley of Velika Paklenica National Park. The trail starts uphill, following the course of the river crossed by small bridges, and along rocky walls carved by water and time. Continue on through beautiful beech and pine forests before reaching Paklenica mountain hut, where you'll stop for an optional hearty lunch before descending back to your campsite. DAY 4 (Sunday 16th November)
Kayak to Jankovica Buk waterfall before heading home
Follow the Zrmanja River upstream all the way to its last waterfall, Jankovića Buk, spotting chamois on the cliffs and hidden coves as you go. Enjoy a refreshing swim in the crystal clear waters while the falls provide a roaring backdrop. Paddle back to Obrovac, change into dry clothes and then head back to the airport in time for your flight home. |
Food and AccommodationWHAT IS THE FOOD LIKE?
Meals tend to be based around meats and sausages, bread and pastries, and pasta and dumplings. Breakfasts and dinners are included, but you'll need to buy lunch each day, so please budget approximately €7-10 for this. Your guide will make suggestions about where to buy this from during the trip (likely to be a mixture of supermarkets, restaurants and/or mountain huts). Vegetarians, vegans and other dietary requirements and allergies can be catered for, but we do recommend that you bring some of your favourite protein snacks along with you. Please let your host know of your dietary requirements when booking, by requesting it on your passenger info form. WHAT IS THE ACCOMMODATION LIKE?
CampingYou'll stay in tree-lined campsite near the scenic Zrmanja River canyon. You'll normally participate in setting up camp on arrival and sometimes packing down the camp at the end of your trip (although if you are tight on time, your guides may do this after your departure). The site has some facilities such as indoor and outdoor showers, toilets, a barbecue area and a pool. Your host will provide a tent and sleeping mat as well as all communal equipment for eating, but please remember to bring your own sleeping bag (or contact your host if you would prefer to rent one, for a charge). Solo travellers get their own tent at no additional cost. KITLIST

DIFFICULTY RATING
This trip has been rated as Moderate No previous kayaking experience is needed. You’ll get full instruction, but you’ll need an adventurous spirit and to be comfortable spending several hours a day either paddling or hiking. You should be confident in the water because you’re going to get wet, and ideally be a competent swimmer. You’ll be wearing a buoyancy aid and full safety kit while kayaking, but being a strong swimmer means you’ll be able to make the most of the many inviting swim spots at lunch breaks and by the waterfalls, where you can take a dip without your buoyancy aid if you’re happy doing so. You’ll have the chance to tackle Class II and III rapids on the Zrmanja River. |
