Who we are, 

​Welcome to Project Active MTB!

We're a friendly and supportive group of mountain biking enthusiasts based in North & West Oxfordshire, dedicated to hitting the trails, getting a great workout, and having a blast!

Are you looking for a fun and inclusive mountain biking community?
Do you enjoy exploring new routes and getting a bit muddy?

We're a small group of like-minded individuals who share a passion for mountain biking. We don't take ourselves too seriously, but we're serious about having fun and pushing ourselves (and each other!) to improve.

Whether you're a seasoned rider or just starting out, you'll find a welcoming atmosphere and plenty of support within our group.

We're always on the lookout for new and exciting routes to explore in and around North & West Oxfordshire. From flowing singletrack through ancient woodlands to challenging hills and exhilarating descents, we love discovering hidden gems and sharing our favourite trails.

MTB Adult Group Rides (from March 2025) 

​Popular meeting points include Woodstock, Freeland, Charlbury, Bletchingdon, and surrounding areas.

• Time: Thursdays at 1815  & occasional Sunday morning at 0830
• Duration: 90-120 minutes
• Locations: North & West Oxfordshire (Woodstock, Charlbury, Bletchingdon, and more)
• Post-Ride: Enjoy a great and well-deserved pint with the group.

Important: To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone, Please do not just turn up. Places must be confirmed with Ben in advance.

Beyond our Thursday night rides, we boast a very active MTB schedule filled with day trips to renowned UK trail centres and scenic routes.

Our calendar will evolve with exciting adventures, including:

Junior Mountain Biking in and around Woodstock: Get Ready to Ride!

Exciting news for young riders!

With the incredible help and support of local parents,
Project Active is launching a dedicated junior mountain biking section, STARTING SOON!

This fantastic opportunity will allow secondary school students to experience the thrill and benefits of mountain biking in a safe, supportive, and fun environment in local areas such as Woodstock, Kirtlington Quarry, Stonesfield, The Oxford Canal,  Port Meadow, Ottmoor Valley & more

" I am passionate about nurturing the next generation of mountain bikers, and this dedicated section, based in Woodstock, will cater specifically to the needs and abilities of young riders. I will offer a range of activities and coaching designed to develop skills, build confidence, and foster a lifelong love of mountain biking and the outdoors." - Ben 

The initial aim offer is 

• One Saturday session per month (Dates TBC)
• Time: 1300 - 1500 
• 12 Participants 

Each session to include - 

• Educational - Kit, off-road safety, environment, road safety,
• Technical - MTB skills, 
• Tactical - Decision making on the MTB trail, The 'how', 'what', 'why', and 'when.'
• Physical  - Fitness components required and needed.
• Homework - the takeaway and practices
• Quarterly Trip -  i.e. Swinley, Forest of Dean, Bike Park Wales & more (parents will be needed to help with logistics)

​Cost - First two sessions complimentary, then £20.00 per session based on three month commitment fee

What do I need? 

• A working MTB (If you don't, we have a great relationship with Long Hanborough Cycle Shop).
• A helmet 
• A Spare inner tube(s)
• A pump
• Multitool 
• All riders must have an emergency contact on them - either the ICE function on your phone or a written piece of paper in a top bag pocket, jersey rear pocket and someone else in the group must know where this is kept.
• A positive attitude!
•  sense of humour.

You must have a enough kit on you to fix most trail problems, others in the group will help you on the mechanical front but please don't rely on others for replacement parts.

Cost 

We understand that joining a new group can raise questions. To help you get to know us and experience Project Active first hand, we're pleased to offer your first two weeks completely free of charge. This allows ample opportunity to discuss any concerns, issues, or questions you may have before committing.

Adults

• Our annual fee is £50.00, covering the period from 1st April to 31st March. 
• Pay & Play - £10.00

PLEASE NOTE THAT NO COACHING IS INVOLVED WITH THIS, JUST THE GROUP RIDES, LEGAL COMPLIANCE  & THE GENERAL ADMINISTRATION 
For those joining later in the year, the fee will be calculated pro-rata. Upon registration, you'll receive an invitation to join our private WhatsApp group, where we share updates, coordinate activities, and foster a strong sense of community.

Juniors
To allow prospective junior members to experience Project Active and discover if it's the right fit,
we offer a complimentary two session trial period.
This provides an excellent opportunity to get to know our group, ask questions, and address any concerns.
Membership is then £60.00 for a three-calendar-month period.
This allows young riders to fully participate in our activities and benefit from coaching and group rides.
Upon registration, junior members and their parents/guardians will be invited to our private communication group (e.g., WhatsApp, dedicated forum), where we share updates, coordinate activities, and maintain open communication.

Please Note - 
These fees contributes directly to the running of the programme, covering essential costs such as:

• Administration: This includes managing queries, coordinating activities, maintaining communication channels, and handling general administrative tasks.
• Compliance: Ensuring we meet all necessary safety regulations, insurance requirements, and safeguarding policies to provide a safe environment for all our members.
• Coaching & Equipment: Supporting  and providing necessary equipment for training sessions and activities.
• Venue Hire (if applicable): Covering any costs associated with using specific facilities or locations for our junior activities.
• Other Operational Costs: This may include things like first aid supplies, website maintenance, and other necessary expenses that contribute to the smooth running of the junior section.

This structure allows us to provide a high-quality programme for our junior riders while ensuring the long-term sustainability of the group as a whole.
